Why a horse solarium?
How much sun a horse still gets under today's keeping conditions, and what that means for health, performance and recovery.
Why should horses be given sunlight treatment?
Stabling, reduced turnout and exercise in indoor arenas cut the natural sunlight our horses need down to a minimum. Exposing horses to sunlight remedies these signs of deficiency. Sunlight gives health and vitality not only to people; our horses, too, stay resilient, vital and healthy because of it.
Exposure to sunlight not only for high-performance horses
The performance-enhancing and health-promoting effect of irradiation should be used regularly for leisure horses too, because even on pasture these animals no longer get enough sun.
Horses in training, racing and competition
Irradiation as further preparation for work brings a marked activation of the circulation and with it a boost in performance. After training the animal should be irradiated straight away, as exposure to sunlight calms and brings about complete relaxation of the muscles.
How often?
To give the horse the minimum it needs to stay healthy and have enough resistance, we recommend three sessions per week. For therapeutic purposes, exposure can take place daily. For horses in work or training, exposure before and after exercise makes sense.
For how long?
A guideline of 20 minutes applies to daily irradiation.
