What is infrared radiation?

Why the wavelength decides the effect, and why two units with the same wattage do not do the same job.

Infrared light in therapy

Infrared heat therapy has proved its worth in the treatment of chronic conditions in particular. Besides its positive influence on wound healing, infrared radiation is also suited to chronic joint conditions. Horses with arthrosis and muscle pain are candidates for a session under the red light. The solarium has also proved its worth as a supportive therapy for chronic respiratory conditions, especially in the cold season.

Important: Red light treatment should not be given for inflamed injuries.

The same section shows the difference that matters:

And what the deep heat can trigger there:

Wavelength decides: infrared A goes deep

With a deep-heat lamp in the IR-A range, deeper layers of tissue are warmed. This heat stimulates the metabolism and can therefore also contribute to muscle relaxation. The body is warmed directly; the heat takes effect on the inside.

Infrared B and C lamps, by contrast, heat only the air or the surface of the skin. Most of the heat is lost at the surface. In a horse solarium the warm air escapes into the surroundings at once, because the solariums mostly stand not in enclosed rooms but in the cold stable. Infrared C lamps are therefore less sensible for a horse solarium: after all, you do not want to warm the stable air, but the horse.

What this means for our units

ITAA-System solariums use only infrared lamps from the branded manufacturer Philips with the greatest possible A radiation, in all three units from the Easy to the Profi. That way the heat arrives where it is meant to: in the horse, not in the stable air.
